It was lovely to see so many Horse Racing Abroad clients in Paris at the weekend for the Arc, where once again we were blessed with glorious weather.

The Arc, held at Chantilly for the first time, was a large-format event on a smaller than usual stage, and in the months leading up to the event, many annual attendees said that they were going to sit this one out; anticipating a traffic nightmare, overcrowding, long lines and nowhere to sit. However, this year’s Arc de Triomphe was an organisational success for France Galop and Chantilly, seamlessly playing host to an historic result with Coolmore horses all sired by Galilieo and trained by Aidan O’Brien taking the first three places, with the winner, Found, breaking Bering’s track record held since 1986.

The Arc was blessed with beautiful weather, mid-sixties and sunny, and the crowd certainly made the most of it. Early arrivals spread blankets on the grassy slopes overlooking the course in front of the grandstand and spent the day basking. Others perched on high-tops and barstools that had been spread throughout the backyard for the day, with the seats in the main Grandstand giving superb views of the racecourse.

Betting lines were manageable, with extra automated machines and attendants, and food stalls and ice cream carts dotted the public areas to feed the crowd. Champagne flowed everywhere, and virtually everyone I saw had a flute in hand.

The whole France Galop team did a great job to ensure everything went as smoothly as possible, and well done to them.
