04 MAY 2016 - INDIA
Greetings folks, from an extremely hot India! I arrived safely in the country that I have now visited seven times - the people, the colours, the bustling traffic and the food all go to make up what is wonderful India!
I arrived into Delhi on Sunday - it was a terrific feeling, almost like a home from home. The Taj hotels and the Imperial hotel are still as good as ever, and for those who remember The Oberoi on the golf course, you will be interested to know that it has closed for renovations for two years. All the hotels offer a choice of Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine, so something for everyone.
Today (Wednesday) I travelled to Shimla, which is a lovely town at the foot of the Himalayas (in India it is pronounced “Him-Al-Yers”) which is around 6,000-odd feet above sea level; pretty much the same as Johannesburg. The Cecil Oberoi is a hotel we often use and close by, at a higher altitude, is Wild Flower Hall, also an Oberoi property. When we were last here we enjoyed a spectacular lunch on the terrace of Wild Flower Hall overlooking the snow-capped Himalayas below us. What an experience!
I plan to visit Wild Flower Hall tomorrow, as well as the town of Shimla, to ensure we have a few good options in this beautiful part of India to include in our Nov/Dec cricket tours.
Lastly, I have included a photo of a vehicle on the road to Shimla, which I am sure will bring smiles to your faces. Incidentally two police vehicles passed the vehicle and neither slowed down or gave it a second glance. I'm not sure this would be allowed on the M4 folks, do you?
Wonderful India! You are going to love it.
Speak to you all again next week, by which time I will have seen many more sights and have much more news to share.
Until the next time,
